GHB has legitimate medical uses, primarily as a treatment for narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden attacks of sleep.
It may also be off-label to treat cataplexy, a condition characterized by sudden muscle weakness or paralysis triggered by strong emotions.
Recreational Use:
GHB is often recreationally for its euphoric and sedative effects. If sometimes referred to as a “club drug” or a “date rape drug” due to its association with nightlife and its potential to be in sexual assaults. It can induce feelings of relaxation, euphoria, and increased sociability. Some users also report enhanced sexual experiences.
