Proscar (Proscar) is a medication that is to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged. It belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors and works by blocking the conversion of testosterone into a more potent form called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT believed to contribute to the development of BPH.
